Galatasaray Under Fire: Okan Buruk Criticised and Historic Defensive Crisis After Trabzonspor Rout

Galatasaray suffered a heavy 4-0 away defeat to Trabzonspor in matchweek six of the Trendyol Süper Lig. The team's poor performance drew significant backlash, with head coach Okan Buruk becoming the primary target of criticism. Buruk was sent off with a red card during the match and had to watch the remainder of the game from the sidelines, further fuelling accusations that he bears responsibility for the heavy loss.

According to reports, some figures within Galatasaray's management believe Okan Buruk failed to adequately prepare the team for the match against Trabzonspor. A report published by Sabah newspaper claimed that club officials stated the fans did not deserve such a heavy defeat and that the situation needed to be reviewed. Following the match, many Galatasaray supporters also voiced their frustration with Buruk on social media.

The fallout was not limited to reactions from management and fans, as the statistics also paint a troubling picture for the club. With the defeat to Trabzonspor, Galatasaray has now conceded 10 goals in their opening six league matches of the season. This marks the club's worst defensive start in the Süper Lig in 60 years, with the last comparable tally coming in the 1966-67 season when they conceded 11 goals in their first six matches.

The team's defensive instability is evident across the season so far. Galatasaray have kept a clean sheet in only two of their six league fixtures, against Erzurumspor FK and Kocaelispor. Following the loss to Trabzonspor, both the internal unrest within the club and the defensive vulnerabilities have intensified the pressure on Okan Buruk and his coaching staff.
