Oğuz Çetin on Lukaku: There's a championship clause in the contract

Fenerbahçe Football Director Oğuz Çetin made important statements about both the club's transfer policy and the team's goals in an interview with the club's television channel. Çetin reminded that the club has not won a championship in 12 years, emphasizing that the management came to office to change this reality. Noting that the yellow-navy blue administration has been working day and night to both restructure the financial situation and rebuild the football squad, Çetin said he has been constantly working alongside head coach İsmail Kartal for the past two months and that the coach has shown great progress in transferring modern tactical approaches from world football to the team.

Oğuz Çetin also shared details about the hottest topic of the moment, the Romelu Lukaku transfer. According to the Belgian striker's contract, the agreement will automatically extend by one more year if Fenerbahçe becomes champion; the player's annual salary was set at 5+1 million Euros. Çetin explained that the extension of Lukaku's injury recovery process last season was influenced by the fact that Napoli and coach Conte, due to their need for the player, rushed him back onto the field too early, which led to a recurrence of the injury in early March.

Fenerbahçe's football director stated that during the transfer process, Lukaku said he only wanted to join Fenerbahçe and had come to make the team champion. According to reports, the player made a financial sacrifice by paying out of his own pocket in the face of Napoli's transfer conditions, confirming his determination with his words as well. Çetin reiterated that together with a strong management team, they have restructured the club both sportingly and financially, and that although creating a style of play that excites the fans has not been easy, they set out this season with the goal of winning the championship.
