Skriniar's striking confession after the loss to Gençlerbirliği: 'Shameful'

Fenerbahçe, who lost 2-1 away to Gençlerbirliği in the first week of the Trendyol Süper Lig, started the season without any points. After the match, the yellow-and-navy blue side's experienced center-back Milan Skriniar spoke to the media and evaluated the defeat.

Starting his words with 'Shameful,' Skriniar stated that the responsibility for the loss belonged entirely to them. The Slovak defender said that before the match, there had been a clear warning within the team about waiting for the opponent's mistakes and trying to capitalize on them, but that exactly this scenario had happened on the pitch. He emphasized that they conceded goals due to their own mistakes and noted that this was a situation they had faced before.

Skriniar noted that the team acted hastily after conceding the second goal, saying that a slight panic atmosphere emerged on the pitch in the first few minutes. The experienced player said that they should have played more patiently in the first half as well, sticking to the game plan, but that they sometimes rushed, which directly affected the result.

Pointing out that such matches could occur frequently throughout the season, Skriniar noted that in these types of games, it is critically important for the defensive line to share the space behind them well. Recalling that both goals they conceded came from counterattacks following ball losses, the defender added that as a team they need to perform better in this regard and that he believes they will achieve this.
