Sofyan Amrabat set for Ajax move after Fenerbahçe exit

Fenerbahçe midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has officially parted ways with the Turkish club. In a statement, the Istanbul side confirmed that the experienced Moroccan international's contract had been terminated by mutual agreement. The move brings an end to Amrabat's spell in Turkey.

Shortly after the departure was confirmed, reports emerged regarding Amrabat's next destination. According to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Ajax have reached an agreement in principle with the player. The report states that the 30-year-old is set to sign a two-year contract with the Amsterdam club.

If completed, the move would mark Amrabat's return to Dutch football after eight years away. He began his career in Utrecht's youth academy before going on to play for Feyenoord. He later turned out for Club Brugge, Hellas Verona, Fiorentina and Manchester United before joining Fenerbahçe in 2025.

After his first season at Fenerbahçe, Amrabat spent last season on loan at Real Betis in Spain. He now looks set to continue his career back in the Netherlands. Fenerbahçe, meanwhile, made headlines ahead of the 2026/27 season by signing high-profile names such as Mason Greenwood, Romelu Lukaku and Nathan Ake.
