Thomas Reis officially unveiled as Trabzonspor's new head coach
Following Fatih Tekke's departure, Trabzonspor has appointed German coach Thomas Reis, who was formally presented at a signing ceremony at Papara Park.
Trabzonspor has named German coach Thomas Reis as its new head coach following the departure of Fatih Tekke. The Turkish Süper Lig club officially confirmed the appointment with a signing ceremony held at Papara Park, attended by Vice President Zeyyat Kafkas. The club also formally announced the deal through a filing with the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP).
According to the KAP statement, Trabzonspor will pay 900,000 euros to Reis' former club Ludogorets as a contract termination fee. The German coach has signed a two-season deal with the club, guaranteeing him a salary of 1 million euros for the 2026-27 season and 1.2 million euros for the 2027-28 campaign.
Speaking at the ceremony, Reis thanked the club's management for trusting him with the role and also sent a farewell message to his former club Ludogorets. He declined to discuss the details of his contract, stating that everything had already been settled. Reis noted that he had not yet met the squad but would speak with the players right after the ceremony, adding, "I'm happy and excited to be here. I hope we write history together."
Reis emphasized that he is no stranger to the Süper Lig, saying he is well aware of its intensity, passion, and the qualities of both the players and the teams. He explained that his short-term priority would be to strengthen the defense before focusing on attack, summarizing his philosophy as "Less talk, more work." Commenting on Mohamed Salah, Reis said working with a player of his caliber is one of the best things that can happen to a coach, but stressed that winning matches requires contributions from the entire squad.
Reflecting on his decision to join Trabzonspor, Reis said he could not turn down the project offered by such a major club. He explained that when an offer comes from a club of Trabzonspor's stature, one accepts without wasting time. The coach added that his aim is to build a strong defensive unit as a team while making the most of the squad's creativity in attack.
