Trabzonspor eye move for former Beşiktaş star Gedson Fernandes

Trabzonspor's push for reinforcements gathered pace after Thomas Reis took charge and guided the side to a 4-0 win over Galatasaray, putting them back in the title race. Club president Ertuğrul Doğan told A Spor that the board would sign whoever Reis wanted, stressing that a quality central midfielder was a clear priority. Doğan added that the squad could see two or three new additions before the window closes.

The name at the top of the club's list is Portuguese midfielder Gedson Fernandes, currently on the books at Spartak Moscow. According to reports, initial contact with the 27-year-old has already produced progress, and head coach Thomas Reis is said to have approved the move. Trabzonspor had also shown interest in Fernandes at the start of the season, though a deal failed to materialise at that time.

This season Fernandes has made 11 appearances for Spartak Moscow, contributing one goal and one assist. His contract with the Russian club runs until 2029, and his current market value stands at around 16 million euros. The Portuguese international joined Spartak Moscow from Beşiktaş in 2025 in a deal reportedly worth 20 million euros.

Standing 1.83 metres tall, Fernandes is no stranger to Turkish football, having previously represented Galatasaray and Çaykur Rizespor in the Süper Lig. He can operate as a central midfielder, as a number 10, or on the right side of midfield, offering valuable versatility. That flexibility is seen as a perfect fit for Trabzonspor's midfield needs. Reports suggest the transfer could be finalised during the winter window.
