Trabzonspor secures biggest win in 55 weeks with 5-0 victory over Gençlerbirliği in Hüseyin Çimşir's first match

Trabzonspor defeated Gençlerbirliği 5-0 at home in the fourth week of the Trendyol Süper Lig, marking a dominant performance in new coach Hüseyin Çimşir's first match in charge. With this result, the maroon-and-blue side secured their biggest margin of victory in the Süper Lig in a full 55 weeks.

The last time Trabzonspor won by such a margin was in week 19 of the 2024-2025 season, on January 12, 2025, when they beat Antalyaspor 5-0 at home. After 602 days, the victory over Gençlerbirliği provided a much-needed morale boost for the club and its supporters.

Trabzonspor collected just 4 points from their opening three league matches, with one win, one draw and one loss, and parted ways with coach Fatih Tekke during this stretch. Following a 2-1 away defeat to Amed Sportif Faaliyetler in week three, the team bounced back strongly in their first match under new management, cruising past Gençlerbirliği.

This scenario is not entirely new for Hüseyin Çimşir. The coach also secured a big win in his first league match in charge of Trabzonspor during the 2019-2020 season; taking over from Ünal Karaman at the time, Çimşir led the team to a 6-0 win over Kasımpaşa in week 18, which was then the club's biggest victory margin in 121 weeks.

Under Fatih Tekke, Trabzonspor's biggest win had been a 4-0 victory over Kayserispor in week 8 of the 2025-2026 season. Tekke, who spent 539 days in charge, oversaw 48 league matches without ever winning by more than four goals. The 5-0 win over Antalyaspor 55 weeks ago, meanwhile, came during Şenol Güneş's fifth spell in charge, which lasted 188 days and included 23 league matches, during which Trabzonspor beat both Antalyaspor and Adana Demirspor by the same 5-0 scoreline.
