UEFA Reduces Guendouzi's Ban to Three Matches Following Fenerbahçe Appeal
The four-match suspension handed to Fenerbahçe's French midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has been cut to three matches after the club's appeal to UEFA.
Fenerbahçe has announced an important UEFA decision concerning Matteo Guendouzi's disciplinary case. The French midfielder was originally handed a four-match ban by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body following incidents that occurred after the Champions League play-off second leg against Olympique Lyon on 26 August 2026.
The Turkish club subsequently lodged an appeal with the UEFA Appeals Body against the ruling. Following the appeal, the original four-match ban, two of which were already suspended, was reduced to a total of three matches, with two of them now subject to a one-year probationary period.
As a result of the initial suspension, Guendouzi was unable to feature in the opening matchday of the Champions League league phase against Roma on 10 September 2026. However, following the UEFA Appeals Body's revised decision, the Frenchman will be eligible to play when Fenerbahçe host Aston Villa on 14 October 2026.
The development provides significant relief for Fenerbahçe's squad planning in European competition. Guendouzi's return to availability gives the coaching staff greater flexibility in midfield for the upcoming fixtures.
