Justice Minister Akın Gürlek announced that a significant development occurred in the investigation into the armed attack on the bus carrying the Fenerbahçe football team in Trabzon 11 years ago. Gürlek stated in a post on his social media account that 5 people had been detained in the case file led by the Trabzon Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The minister emphasized that this attack, in which the bus driver was seriously injured and the players and club officials faced great danger, left a deep mark on society's collective memory.

The statement noted that the Department for the Investigation of Unsolved Crimes, under the Ministry of Justice, had taken up the file for reexamination. It was reported that all evidence was reassessed from scratch using new technological methods, and that the HTS records and base station data obtained as a result guided the investigation. Based on the findings obtained, it was stated that teams from the Trabzon Provincial Security Directorate carried out an operation in the morning hours, conducting searches and seizures at the suspects' addresses.

Gürlek said that the sole aim of the investigation was to bring to light, with concrete evidence, the people behind the attack. The minister noted that the government's stance against violence in sports would not change, regardless of which side or fan group it was directed at, and that the process was being followed meticulously. Reiterating that they are working determinedly under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to shed light on such incidents, Gürlek thanked all the institutions and public officials who contributed to the effort.

Minister Gürlek stated that the process regarding this attack, which has awaited an answer for years, would be followed through to the end, underlining that neither would anyone be unjustly accused, nor would the perpetrator of the attack go unidentified.
