Liverpool's Wirtz Injured Ahead of Fenerbahçe Clash
Florian Wirtz's injury in Liverpool's 2-0 win over Brighton has raised concern ahead of the Champions League trip to face Fenerbahçe.
Liverpool secured a 2-0 away victory over Brighton in matchweek 8 of the Premier League, moving up to 15 points. Hosts Brighton remained on 16 points following the defeat. Liverpool's goals came from Florian Wirtz in the 17th minute and an own goal by Pascal Gross in the 21st minute.
An early injury in the match drew particular attention from Turkish football followers. Turkish international Ferdi Kadıoğlu, playing for Brighton, was forced off injured in just the 6th minute and had to be substituted.
Later in the match, bad news also emerged on Liverpool's side. Florian Wirtz, who had contributed with a goal, took a knock to the ankle and had to leave the pitch in the 65th minute, with Trey Nyoni coming on in his place. This adds to a growing list of injury concerns for Liverpool, who had already lost Dominik Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong to injury the previous week.
Manager Andoni Iraola spoke about Wirtz's condition after the match. He said the German midfielder suffered a mild ankle sprain that did not appear too serious, but stressed that the situation needs close monitoring given the team's congested schedule of matches every three days.
Liverpool face a busy run of fixtures ahead. They will host Chelsea in the League Cup before a home Premier League meeting with Arsenal. Immediately after that, Liverpool will travel to Istanbul for their Champions League trip to face Fenerbahçe at the Kadıköy stadium on November 4.
