Pape Matar Sarr transfer update: personal terms agreed with Juventus

Significant developments have emerged in the transfer saga surrounding Tottenham's Senegalese midfielder Pape Matar Sarr. The 23-year-old had long been on Galatasaray's radar, and according to reports Besiktas also entered the race for his signature. Several European clubs were monitoring the player, but it was Juventus who made the decisive move.

The Italian giants stepped up contacts overnight and reached an agreement with Sarr over personal terms. The player is said to have accepted Juventus's offer of a contract running until 2031, structured as a 1+4 year deal. This marks one of the key stages of the transfer being completed.

Having secured the player's agreement, Juventus have now intensified negotiations with Tottenham. The Italian club is reportedly proposing a loan-with-option-to-buy structure. Tottenham, for their part, are said to prefer an obligation to buy that would become mandatory once certain conditions are met.

Tottenham signed Pape Matar Sarr from French club Metz at the start of the 2021-22 season for 16.9 million euros. The Senegalese international still has four years remaining on his contract with the London club. Meanwhile, Besiktas, who advanced to the UEFA Europa League group stage by eliminating Kaunas Zalgiris, are also continuing their transfer activity, with Sarr reportedly featuring in their plans as well.
