Fatih Terim's Galatasaray confession: 'If I had stayed 20 years, much would have changed'

Fatih Terim, currently at the helm of Saudi Arabian club Al Shabab, made striking remarks about his past at Galatasaray on his personal YouTube channel. The experienced manager pointed to Arsene Wenger, who coached Arsenal for years, as an example, stating that the picture could have been entirely different had he stayed at the club for a much longer period.

Terim emphasized that his inability to continue in the role for such a long time was not about him, but about the individuals within the club's decision-making mechanism. Stating that his loyalty to the yellow-and-red club was not limited to whether he sat in the manager's chair, Terim reminded everyone that he has been part of this community for 52 years, directing a rebuke at those who tried to wrong him in the past and asking, 'Where are they now?'

The experienced coach stressed that those who have a say in club management should not place their personal interests above the institution's benefit, arguing that such behavior harms the community. Defining his loyalty through the concept of 'faithfulness,' Terim said this meant standing by the same line not only during good times but also through difficult periods.

Noting that changing teams and communities happens much faster nowadays, Terim stated that the sense of loyalty has been gradually diminishing compared to the past. The experienced figure concluded his remarks with the sentence 'In the end, a person is remembered not by what they won, but by what they never gave up on,' thereby once again emphasizing that his commitment to Galatasaray is enduring.
